Dr. Sylvester Smith
BIBLICAL STUDIES, PRACTICAL MINISTRY, THEOLOGY

Sylvester Smith [Bachelor of Science, Jacksonville State University (1976); Master of Biblical Studies, Heritage Bible College (1997); Master of Theological Studies, Samford University (2001); Doctor of Ministry, Samford University (2007)] is the Senior Pastor of the Praise & Worship Center Church of God of Prophecy in Anniston, Alabama. He has 42 years of pastoral experience across diverse cultures. He is an ordained Bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy (1985).

A native of Gadsden, Alabama, USA, he has served pastorates in Alabama, Eastern Canada, Western Canada, and Mississippi. He is bilingual (English/French) and has taught SOPAS classes for the CoGoP’s CBL department in both Canada and Africa.

He currently serves on the Leadership Development Team for the Alabama Church of God of Prophecy. Since 2009, Dr. Smith has taught in Lee University’s DAL online program. His courses include Pastoral Ministry I & II, OT Survey, NT Survey, Fundamentals of Preaching, Techniques of Preaching, and The Mission of the Church.

Recently, Dr. Smith published his dissertation, Unless You Remain Single: A Pastoral Dilemma in the Church of God of Prophecy as a biblical study guide to the subject of porneia (fornication). As a pastoral theologian and scholar, he is committed to giving his best in God’s service and to mentoring emerging ministry leaders in their personal development to do the same.

He is happily married to Bobbie (47 years) and they reside in Anniston, Alabama. They have two adult children, April and Jonathan, and one grandson, Grant.
